Xero Adds Attachment Uploads by Email and WebCam, Multiple Email Addresses by Contact

In the latest update cloud accounting program Xero allowed uploading of attachments by email to in-app document storage, Xero Files, and multiple email addresses by contact.

The upload-by-email feature was one of the biggest requests since Xero Files’ release two months ago. Although a fairly common feature in practice management suites for accounting firms, it was the first time it had been added to a client-side accounting program. Each Xero organisation received a unique email address and any attachments sent to that address automatically appeared in the Files inbox.

The upgrade also included the ability to take a photo from a computer’s in-built camera. Only available to users of the Firefox and Chrome browsers, the webcam photo could be added as an image to any Files folders.

“It is a very quick way to record document images quickly without having to take a scan or send an email,” product manager Andrew Tokeley wrote in the Xero blog.

Xero also addressed its fourth most requested feature, multiple email addresses on a contact, which was a standard feature on desktop accounting programs. Each contact record could add up to five additional people and their email addresses. A user could select whether to add each email to the recipient list on any outgoing Xero emails, Tokeley said in the post.

Other upgrades included the ability to search for a purchase order delivery address by contact, inventory items on cash transactions, and improved statement search.
