Hi Guys,
Which do you do? I have always done Turbo Tax, our returns have always been pretty simple. But, this year I had a contractor job and worked from home part time, so I didn't pay taxes on that money and need to. This also means I can claim some of my expenses related to the contractor job. I did turbotax but feel like maybe if I went to an accountant, he might know some other ways I can get my fee down, but I also don't want to go to an accountant, end up owing the same amount to the government PLUS a fee to an accountant, KWIM?
Anyone have experience?

Accountant or CPA. My DH is a CPA. So, he already did ours.
He hates when people go to H and R Block and such. His friend just paid 210 for a return with 2 W-2s there. They aren't accountants or CPAs and often don't do a thorough job.
My DH said they would have charged him 125 tops and gotten him more money back. He is currently amending his friend's return for free and getting him several hundred dollars more back.
Look up your local accountants and CPAs and check their prices. Avoid places like H and R Block at all costs. Places like that mess up so many tax returns!

Absolutly an accountant! Ours runs about $175 a year and it is by far and away the best money spent. A computer program is only as good as it's program whereas an accountant adds the human component of thought and problem solving to work through a complicated tax code in your best interest.

Go see an accountant or an rtp. NOT a chain! I own a tax business and do taxes all over the country. A schedule C can be complicated. Especially because you need to do a home office. A large chain like h&r block will likely charge you 350+ for that return where a small place like ours does 145. If you're in the Midwest you may find it cheaper. Tip... If they won't give you a price on the phone, it's a scam

I have an accountant do mine but we have a rental and I have done daycare from my home. We also had a ton of medical bills so ours is complicated. When I had no write offs and was single I did the turbo tax on my own.
